PLAGIARISM POLICY

JUITA (Jurnal Ilmiah Tafsir Alkitab) is committed to upholding academic integrity and maintaining the highest standards of originality in scholarly publishing. The journal does not tolerate plagiarism in any form and requires all submitted manuscripts to represent the authors’ own original work.

All manuscripts submitted to JUITA are screened for similarity using Turnitin before entering the peer review process. The purpose of this screening is to identify possible textual overlap, unattributed borrowing, duplicate use of previously published material, and other concerns related to originality and publication ethics.

1. Similarity Threshold

JUITA applies a maximum substantive similarity threshold of 20%. Manuscripts with a substantive similarity level exceeding this threshold will not proceed to peer review until the overlap has been satisfactorily addressed.

2. Excluded Elements in Similarity Assessment

In assessing similarity, the journal excludes:

  • bibliography and references;
  • standard journal template text; and
  • other non-substantive overlap that does not constitute plagiarism, as determined by the Editorial Team.

3. Editorial Assessment of Similarity Reports

Similarity reports are evaluated editorially, not mechanically. A similarity percentage alone does not automatically determine whether plagiarism has occurred. The Editorial Team assesses the nature, location, and extent of overlap before making a decision.

4. Unacceptable Practices

The journal considers the following practices unacceptable:

  • direct copying without proper quotation or citation;
  • close paraphrasing without appropriate acknowledgement;
  • use of others’ ideas, data, translations, or interpretations without proper attribution;
  • duplicate submission;
  • redundant publication; and
  • self-plagiarism or excessive reuse of previously published material without proper disclosure.

5. Editorial Actions

Where plagiarism or substantial originality concerns are identified, JUITA may take one or more of the following actions:

  • request clarification or revision from the author;
  • return the manuscript for correction before review;
  • reject the manuscript at the editorial screening stage;
  • reject the manuscript after review; or
  • in the case of published articles, issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, as appropriate.

Authors are fully responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original, properly cited, and compliant with the journal’s ethical and editorial standards.
