1. General Provisions

JUITA welcomes original scholarly articles in Biblical Studies, biblical interpretation, biblical hermeneutics, and related areas relevant to the academic development of scriptural studies. Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by any other journal.

• A clearly defined research focus
• Engagement with previous scholarship
• An explicit interpretive method or analytical approach
• Systematic academic argumentation
• A meaningful contribution to Biblical Studies

2. Scope of Manuscripts

JUITA accepts original research articles related to Biblical Studies, including but not limited to:

All manuscripts must be written in clear academic English.

Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have their manuscripts reviewed by a competent English editor or proofreader before submission. Manuscripts with inadequate language quality may be returned to the authors prior to peer review.

4. Manuscript File, Template, and Format

Authors must prepare their manuscripts using the official JUITA article template and submit the file in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).

5. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should normally be organized as follows:

6. Title

The title must be concise, specific, informative, and limited to a maximum of 15 words.

7. Abstract and Keywords

The abstract must be written in a single concise and informative paragraph. It should reflect the article as a whole, including the problem addressed, the aim of the study, the method used, the main findings, and the scholarly contribution.

The abstract must:

• Be written in English
• Contain 100–150 words
• Be written in one paragraph
• Briefly present the background or research problem
• State the objective of the study
• Explain the method or approach
• Summarize the principal findings
• State the contribution or significance of the study

Keywords

Provide 3–5 important terms representing the substance of the article. Keywords should reflect the main theme, the biblical text under study, and the methodological approach employed.

8. Introduction

The introduction must clearly establish the scholarly foundation of the article. It should define the field of inquiry, identify the research gap, and state the contribution of the article.

• Background of the problem — explain the main issue under investigation and its importance in Biblical Studies.
• Scholarly significance of the study — show why the text, theme, or interpretive problem matters academically, theologically, or contextually.
• Brief review of previous studies — indicate major approaches, findings, and debates.
• Research gap — explain what remains insufficiently addressed.
• Research objective — state clearly what the article seeks to accomplish.
• Research question(s) or focus of study — make the direction of analysis explicit.
• Contribution or novelty of the study — explain how the article contributes to Biblical Studies or interpretation.

9. Method

The method section explains how the study was conducted in a systematic, transparent, and academically accountable manner. This section is mandatory even for library-based or text-centered research.

• Type of research — e.g., qualitative library research, exegetical study, hermeneutical study, intertextual analysis, reception study.
• Interpretive or analytical approach — e.g., historical-critical, narrative criticism, literary analysis, semantic analysis, socio-rhetorical criticism, canonical approach, feminist criticism, postcolonial criticism, contextual hermeneutics.
• Object of study — the biblical text, passage, theme, concept, or term under analysis.
• Sources of data — biblical texts, critical apparatuses, commentaries, journal articles, monographs, and other scholarly resources.
• Analytical procedures — delimiting the text, analyzing literary context, examining structure and linguistic elements, exploring historical context, engaging previous scholarship, and formulating an interpretive synthesis.
• Rationale for the chosen method — explain why the selected method is appropriate.

10. Results and Discussion

This section forms the core of the article. Findings should present what has been discovered in a systematic way, while discussion should interpret the meaning of those findings, relate them to previous studies, and clarify their contribution.

The following should be avoided:

• Merely retelling the biblical text without analysis
• Merely compiling quotations from commentators
• Repeating the findings without synthesis
• Using a homiletical or devotional style unsupported by academic procedure

Tables and figures may be included where necessary to strengthen the presentation of the analysis. Each table or figure must be clearly numbered and provided with an appropriate title.

11. Conclusion

The conclusion must serve as a concise, clear, and substantive closing section. It should restate the major findings, contribution, and implications of the study.

• A concise answer to the research objective or question
• A summary of the main findings
• The scholarly contribution of the article
• Theological, academic, or contextual implications
• Suggestions for further research, where relevant

12. Referencing Style

JUITA requires strict adherence to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th Edition, especially in formatting, in-text citations, and references.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley or Zotero and to select APA 7th Edition style settings.

13. References and Source Quality

• At least 15 references are required.
• At least 80% of the references should come from journal articles published within the last 10 years, except where classical or foundational sources are necessary.
• Non-credible sources such as Wikipedia, personal blogs, and general popular news portals are not acceptable as primary scholarly support.

Where available, authors are encouraged to include DOIs, stable URLs, and complete bibliographic details.

14. Originality and Similarity Screening

All manuscripts are screened using Turnitin before entering peer review.

Manuscripts with a substantive similarity level exceeding 20% will not proceed to peer review until the overlap has been satisfactorily addressed. In calculating similarity, bibliography/references and standard journal template text are excluded from assessment.

15–21. Additional Required Statements

• Title Page and Anonymous Manuscript: submit as separate files.
• ORCID Requirement: corresponding authors are expected to provide an ORCID iD.
• Author Contributions: specify each author’s role.
• Funding Statement: disclose any funding or state if none was received.
• Conflict of Interest Statement: disclose any conflict or state none exists.
• AI-Assisted Writing Disclosure: disclose limited AI use if applicable; AI tools must not be listed as authors.
• Data Availability Statement: include where applicable.

22. Submission Procedure

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.

1. Register for a journal account.
2. Complete all submission steps.
3. Upload the title page and anonymous manuscript separately.
4. Provide complete metadata.
5. Confirm compliance with journal policies.

23. Editorial Screening and Peer Review

All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening to assess relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, academic quality, compliance with author guidelines, formatting and referencing requirements, and ethical suitability.

Manuscripts that pass this stage are sent to at least two independent reviewers under a double-blind peer review process.

Possible Editorial Decisions

• Accept without revision
• Accept with minor revisions
• Reconsider after major revisions
• Reject

24. Review Timeline

• Initial editorial screening: 1 week
• Peer review process: 3–5 weeks
• Final editorial decision: approximately 5–7 weeks after submission

25. Article Processing Charge (APC)

Beginning with Volume 3 Issue 1 April 2026, JUITA applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted manuscripts.

APC: IDR 200,000 (approximately USD 12, subject to the prevailing exchange rate)

The APC is charged only after acceptance. Submission and peer review are free of charge.

26. Copyright and License

Articles published in JUITA are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Authors retain copyright while granting the journal the right of first publication.

27. Submission Checklist

• The manuscript fits the journal scope
• The manuscript is written in academic English
• The article follows the official template
• The title does not exceed 15 words
• The abstract is 100–150 words
• 3–5 keywords are provided
• APA 7th style is followed consistently
• The references meet the journal’s quality standard
• Similarity has been checked
• The anonymous manuscript contains no identifying information
• ORCID, funding, conflict of interest, and author contributions are ready
• All metadata have been entered accurately

28. Final Note

Authors are strongly advised to read all journal policies, use the official manuscript template, and ensure full compliance before submission. Manuscripts that do not conform to the journal’s requirements may be returned for correction or declined prior to review.
